UCI ROAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS COMING TO YORKSHIRE IN 2019

"We are delighted and honoured to announce that Yorkshire has been chosen to host the 2019 UCI Road World Championships." 

The sensational news was announced today by UCI President Brian Cookson OBE live from Doha, Qatar which is currently hosting the 2016 UCI Road World Championships.
And the celebrations have already begun. Tonight will see first direct arena Leeds, English Heritage’s Clifford’s Tower in York and Trinity Leeds shopping centre lit up in the colours of the famous UCI rainbow band while the bid film was broadcast on big screens on Millennium Square in Leeds.
Yorkshire you never fail to disappoint with your unstinting support for major events and today is the beginning of another incredible chapter.
The collegiate bid was submitted by Welcome to Yorkshire, British Cycling, UK Sport and the Department of Culture Media and Sport. The UK Government has guaranteed to underwrite the full cost of the event and back it with £24 million of investment.

Yorkshire has shown it can host world class events with the Grand Départ, the Tour de Yorkshire and now the county has been chosen to host the UCI Road World Championships in 2019. This will be 12 races over eight days in this nine day event. We have got the scenery, we have got the warm welcome and we know we can bring the crowds.
We will put on an event to remember - the 2019 UCI Road World Championships will be one to go down in history!

The UCI Road World Championships is one of the most prestigious events on the professional cycling calendar. 
Future UCI Road World Championships:
o   2017 - Bergen (Norway)
o   2018 -  Innsbruck (Austria)
o   2019 -  YORKSHIRE (GREAT BRITAIN)
·   1,000 of the best male and female riders from around 75 countries around the globe compete for the chance to win the iconic rainbow jersey.
·  The event takes place over nine days and includes individual and team time trials as well as full road races for Under 18, Under 23 and Elite riders.
·   6,000-7,000 national federation members, delegates, technicians and journalists set to be in attendance. 
·   A predicted global televised audience in excess of 300 MILLION.

·   The full route of the race in Yorkshire will be announced over the coming months.

Ilkley Literature Festival 2016 Starts Today!

Ilkley Literature Festival 2016 kicks off tonight with legendary screenwriter Andrew Davies talking about his work adapting classics such as Pride and Prejudice and War and Peace.

There are tickets still available for over 120 Festival events and this weekend you could see Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, former BBC Breakfast presenter Sian Williams and a celebration of the life of JB Priestley with guests including Barry Cryer and Margaret Drabble. Plus we have the opening of the Festival Exhibition, Tom Phillips's A Humument and lots of exciting FREE Fringe events.

Event 83. Damon Hill: Watching the Wheels

Due to unforeseen circumstances this event has been moved to Monday 17 October at 7.30pm at the Kings Hall.

Rio Homecoming Parade

Join us in Leeds city centre to welcome back our Rio Heroes!
Welcome to Yorkshire in association with Leeds City Council are excited to welcome back Yorkshire’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes with a special homecoming parade.
On Wednesday 28th September, a carnival atmosphere will take hold of the city as the
athletes are welcomed home in true Yorkshire style. A host of athletes have confirmed their attendance, including triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee; World, European and Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft MBE; diver and gold medallist Jack Laugher and rowers
Andy Triggs Hodge and Paul Bennett who both claimed gold.
There will be a lively parade, with samba bands, brass bands, colourful performances and of course open top buses and vehicles carrying the athletes.
Parade celebrations will commence at 5.15pm, and we would love to see the people of Yorkshire come out in force to line the city centre route and cheer on these inspiring men and women.

Ilkley Literature Festival 2016

It's that time if year again, as the exciting programme for this year's Literature Festival has been launched. Big names this year include Ken Clarke, Nick Clegg, Alastair Campbell, Alan Titchmarsh and Sian Williams, plus Sir Tony Robinson Jenni Murray and John Simpson. There is also a fabulous fringe festival as well as lots of children's events. 

Tickets go on sale on Tuesday 30th August. Headline events tend to sell out very quickly! Further details can be found at www.ilkleyliteraturefestival.org.uk 

If you're unsure about whether you'll be able to secure tickets, you may book your stay with us on Monday the 29th. Exceptionally, we will hold your booking provisionally for 24 hours until you've applied on Tuesday 30th. If you're not successful, we will refund your payment.

Join us at Cliffe Castle this Spring and Summer for our series of FREE musical events.  

The programme celebrates the musical history of Cliffe Castle, and the abundance of local musical talent with a varied mixture of historical and contemporary music.

For February 2016,  you can look forward to the following:
14th February - Den Miller
Den Miller is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumental musician and entertaining solo performer. Den's songs mix the silly and the serious, often in the same song, but always with his trademark mission statement of a strong melody plus intelligent lyrics.
28th February - The Haworth Band

The Haworth Band is a long-established and celebrated brass band. They strive to serve the local community and to provide a forum for musicians of any age who enjoy playing music in an ensemble, and endeavor to encourage the development of new players by providing instruments and musical tuition.

Concerts are held 2pm-3pm on Sunday 14th & Sunday 28th February  
No booking required, although spaces may be limited.

Ilkley Film Festival 2016


Now in its third year, the Ilkley Film Festival is turning into a much bigger event. This year sees an increase in documentaries, local films, previews and independent cinema productions as well as using the new Ilkley Cinema as an additional venue.
